Kristen

Hi! I'm Kristen. A mom of three beautiful children. Twin 20-year-olds: Cheyenne and Cayden and a 10-year-old: Annabelle. Our son Cayden lives in the U.S. and is going to trade school for HVAC.

I am a diehard Swiftie, I even was able to go to the Eras Tour twice. Once in Houston, Texas and once in Gelsenkirchen, Germany.

I have ADHD (as does the rest of our family).

John is my husband. We got married in 2016 but have been together since 2012. He was diagnosed with a rare neurological condition called Myasthenia Gravis a few years back which almost took his life. He has been a source of strength, resilience and courage for our family. On top of his condition, he pushed through and earned his Ph.D. He now runs his business in academic coaching.

Our 20-year-old daughter Cheyenne lives with us and is attending a U.S. college online. She loves art. She is an amazing painter and sculptor. Annabelle, our 10-year-old daughter is currently attending a primary language school near where we live. Annabelle's passion is gymnastics, which she is part of a competitive team.

My Bloom Blog - Our Personal Journey

Elegant golden frame with a floral heart and 'Bloom Blog' text in pink script.

Welcome to My Bloom Blog!

We are so glad you're here. This blog started out as our open diary, sharing stories about motherhood, illness, and starting over. It's turned into an online chronicling of our journey leaving the United States and moving our family to the Netherlands.

We have no Dutch roots (that we know of), so it's been quite the learning curve, and it's only just beginning.

Who are we?

We are the McAvoy family. Kristen (that's me), John (my husband), Cheyenne (20y), Cayden (20y), and Annabelle (10y).

We are a neurodivergent, LGBTQ+ affirming, trauma-informed family of five.  Cayden, our son decided to stay in the U.S. when we moved to the Netherlands. Cheyenne, his twin, came with us.

What makes us unique?

We just want to share our dream of a new beginning with you. Through our grief, trauma, travel and everything in between.

This blog is our open diary, an ode to beginning again.

The so-called 'American Dream' can be anything you want it to be.

For us, it's beginning again.
